What is the real buddhism?

according to the history the first buddhism was in India but today is over and we have different kinds of buddhism because they spread the religion through asia and we have many buddhist types, which one is the closer to the original? if the buddhism is peaceful and not converting people? why do the buddhists from India took the religion to other places like China, Japan etc.
